Just as faith, love and hope are not just a matter of the soul or spirit, but affect the whole person, sexuality is not just a purely physical matter, but affects the whole person.
Leading a successful and fulfilling life is a balancing act. The balance between body, soul and spirit is disturbed, when sexuality becomes an addiction. When the sexual drives get a grip on people, their own human existence suffers, because love and loyalty become almost impossible. I am not free, because I let my drives run free and give in to every stimulus, but the other way around: I am free, when I can control my drives with my will, e.g. because I want to be faithful in a permanent relationship, even if “the butterflies in the stomach” are just not there.
